Our Local Governing Body (LGB) plays a vital role in providing support, challenge and strategic oversight for the school. The LGB meets once every term to review progress, monitor the impact of the School Development Plan, and evaluate how well the school is meeting its improvement priorities.

The Chair of the LGB maintains close contact with the school throughout the year and meets regularly with the Headteacher to discuss key developments, priorities and emerging needs.

LGB members are actively involved in school life. They visit regularly and attend events such as charity fundraisers, wellbeing days, parents’ evenings and wider community activities. Governors also engage directly with pupils through School Parliament meetings, where they listen to learners’ views and discuss important issues affecting school life.

Safeguarding remains a standing priority. LGB members monitor safeguarding policies, training compliance and procedures, offering both support and robust oversight to ensure all pupils are safe. A designated safeguarding governor is elected and works closely with the school to monitor safeguarding practices and policies. 

The LGB works alongside the Headteacher to monitor school resources and the effective use of the budget. Heads of Department and subject leads often attend LGB meetings to share updates on curriculum strengths, pupil outcomes and key areas for further development.

Governors are encouraged to undertake ongoing training, especially where it links to school improvement priorities or developing areas of national importance.
