Online Safety

As part of your child’s curriculum and to develop their computer skills, we provide internet access only during teacher-supervised lessons. We firmly believe that the internet is an invaluable and essential tool for children as they grow up in today’s world. While there are sometimes concerns about children accessing unsuitable content, we have taken proactive steps to address this risk at school.

Our school’s internet service provider uses a filtering system that blocks access to inappropriate material.

At Home

As a parent, you’ll understand how important the internet is to children – they use it for learning, playing, socialising, and expressing themselves. It’s a highly creative space full of amazing opportunities. However, the technology children use daily can seem a bit overwhelming, and you might worry about the risks your child could face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers, or exposure to illegal or inappropriate content.

You can engage with your children regarding their use of the internet while at home using some conversation starter ideas below and from www.childnet.com

  • Ask your children to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
  • Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
  • Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, how to set privacy settings and how to report or block upsetting content.
  • Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
  • Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online?
