Forest School
At Rivertree Free School, Forest School will be rolled out once pupils and staff are established on the site to ensure the safety of all involved. We will have a designated Forest School area and a wild woodland area. We will build and develop our site based on our pupils’ needs and interests.
Children learn best from first-hand experiences such as exploring, playing, and discovering through a range of activities. These activities are child led and initiated, curated and created by experienced Forst School leaders.
Forest School aims to build a sense of independence, increase self-esteem, and meet diverse sensory needs, as well as encourage an understanding of ourselves and the natural world.
Our pupils will be learning through discovery in areas such as:
- Mathematical development: counting natural objects; sorting shapes, colours, and sizes; problem-solving and calculating; measuring; pattern making and recognition.
- Physical development: games and healthy exercise outdoors. spatial awareness; balancing; negotiating obstacles; use of tools;
- Personal, social and emotional development: building self-esteem; independence; cooperation; respect for living things; sharing experiences with peers and adults; developing an understanding of safety and boundaries
- Literacy and listening skills: attending and following instructions; new vocabulary; sharing ideas; storytelling; songs and rhymes; mark-making
- Scientific understanding: investigating predicting and experimenting; mapping; growing things; using senses to learn about materials, textures, and changes.
- Creativity: creating, building dens, dancing; music-making; mud painting; role play and imaginative play.
- There will also be opportunities for den building, fire lighting, and using tools!
