Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Rivertree, we are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our pupils and staff. We all have a role to play in ensuring that Rivertree is a warm, welcoming, and supportive school.
At Rivertree, we:
- Help pupils to recognise and understand their emotions
- Support pupils to feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries.
- Actively promote positive relationships and a sense of community as this supports mental health and wellbeing.
- Provide opportunities through our curriculum for developing social skills, teaching children how to form, manage, and maintain relationships.
- Promote self-esteem and ensure our pupils know that they are talented and unique.
- Encourage pupils to be confident and to develop a sense of agency.
- Help pupils to develop emotional resilience.
We are aiming to achieve our Bronze Award as a Rights Respecting School. As a school we place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of our ethos, curriculum, and culture. Children’s rights are learned, practiced, protected, and promoted, fostering a safe environment where pupils are empowered to become active global citizens.
We use the Speak out Stay Safe Programme – is a safeguarding programme run by the NSPCC, and deliver by the School Safeguarding Team, that teaches children how to recognise abuse and empowers them to seek help if they are worried.
We have recently launched The Wellbeing Award for Schools. This is an accreditation framework designed to embed a long-term culture of mental health and emotional support across a school community. Developed with the National Children’s Bureau, it helps institutions evaluate practices, reduce stigma, and support both staff and pupils.
There are two trained Mental Health First Aiders available in school. They are able to provide support to both pupils and staff. They can signpost staff to help and support through the Local Authority Care First Programme. They are able to help pupils and families access the support they may need.
